MtGnet
Internet MtG for the rest of us!
Java client/server for playing Magic:
The Gathering over the web
MtGnet is neither produced nor endorsed by Wizards
of the Coast
TwinFeats is proud to announce that we've begun
work on what is essentially the next generation of PortalNet,
now named MtGnet! MtGnet is a complete rewrite from PortalNet
from the ground up - but don't worry, we'll be keeping all the
essential features of PortalNet that made it such a hit with MtG
players from around the world, such as:
- Java means no more Windows only web Magic
play!
- Complete integrated online or offline deck builder with card search
- Multi-user server with public
and private chat
- Challenge a player online or watch a game in progress
- Public deck library for preconstructed decks
- All standard MtG cards
from Alpha/Beta/Unlimited to present
- Record and replay games with VCR-like interface
- Save game in progress to continue later
- Integrated card errata and rulings
- Configurable game screen
- Drag and drop card playing
- 100% free!
We feel the rewrite is necessary because a
lot of very important lessons were learned from the creation and
evolution of PortalNet (all 17,000 lines of Java source!). With
MtGnet we hope to make the system much more flexible not only
for you, the MtG player, but also for us to maintain and add new
features.
Like PortalNet, MtGnet is being written using Java v1.1.x which
means it will be usable by nearly every type of computer on the
net, including Windows 95/NT/98, Unix, OS/2, and MacIntosh. Given
the demands of an application like MtGnet it will not
be an applet run under a browser like Netscape or Internet Explorer
but instead a stand alone java application.
MtGnet will be a completely free system when completed, and 100%
of its source code will be available right here from TwinFeats
during its development.
